If Poetry Journal Seeks Poems for Third Issue

If Poetry Journal is now seeking poetry for its third issue. The theme is tentatively “music,” though I’m interested in seeing a variety of poetry about any subject.  If you would like to submit 1-5 poems, please e-mail them to me (Don Illich) at ifpoetryjournaleditor at gmail dot com. No attachments, please put your poems in the body of your e-mail. Basic cover letter preferred. No previously published poems. Each contributor will receive one contributor’s copy. The deadline for poetry submissions is April 25, 2008.

In May, 2009 we will bring our program to the culturally sophisticated, lush mountain town of Xalapa, State of Veracruz.  Our program will focus on Poetry Workshops, nightly readings and may also include lectures.

Our distinguished faculty poets will include Jerome Rothenberg, Mary Jo Bang, Marc Weiss, Susan Rich, and Lisa Alvarado.  Our free public readings will include all faculty poets, and two notable Mexican poets currently living in  Mexico City,  José Vicente Anaya (born in Villa Coronado, Chihuahua) and Luis Cortés Bargalló (born in Tijuana, B.C.).  Spanish lessons are optional, as are two  Day Trips.  During the week of our program, the city of Xalapa will host the Annual International June Music Festival (which starts during the last week of May and continues until the beginning of July).

Stories will be judged by _______________.

Entries must be previously unpublished, original work, typed double spaced,

and no longer than 2600 words or 10 pages. One entry per person.

Attach a separate cover sheet with title, author name, address, email, and telephone numbers.

The story itself should not bear anything but the title and page numbers.

May re-submit a non-winning entry from 2008.

Deadline for submission: May 31, 2009

The symposium reserves one-time rights to print the winner on the website.

Her Mark seeks poetry by women

WMG is looking to showcase a variety of compelling, sensitive, and provocative
poetry by women for the annual HER MARK publication. All themes and styles are
welcome. Selected poems will be featured together with visual art in a bound
publication. The publication is 5x 7; poems submitted should be able to
fit on one page of this size.

Poetry Juror: Maureen Seaton. Maureen Seaton has won numerous prizes for her poetry, including an NEA
fellowship, the Lambda Literary Award, the Iowa Poetry Prize, the Audre Lorde
Award, and the Pushcart Prize. She has facilitated poetry workshops at Columbia
College Chicago, the School of the Art Institute, and at Woman Made Gallery. In
1995/1996, she curated a reading series entitled “Woman As Culture” for the
Gallery. Maureen Seaton teaches poetry and literary collage at the University of
Miami, Florida.
