
After earning an MAT in education at Keane College and an MA in Creative Writing from the University of Washington, Sheila Bender has taught writing at colleges, universities, public school classrooms, writer's workshops, teacher training events, and private seminars across the country. She is a poet whose work appears in US and Canadian literary magazines and in several anthologies. She has written nine books on writing and is at work on her tenth. She has also published collections of poetry and a memoir.

In addition to writing poetry, essays, and instructional books, Sheila Bender has been a contributor to Writer's Digest magazine and The Writer. Her work has appeared in the Associated Writing Program's Writer's Chronicle. Sheila has been publishing Writing It Real with her partner Kurt VanderSluis since 2002.
Sheila Bender's students have enjoyed the success of publishing their poetry and essays and they continue to expand their credits and expertise.
Sheila has helped teachers revolutionize their approach to teaching the writing process. She directs the Writing It Real Writer's Conference in Port Townsend, WA each year and brings that conference to a second city each year as well. |
