Writing It Real's History
In 2002, Sheila created her online writing instructional magazine for people who write from personal experience or teach others to do so. Having authored many books on writing for Writer's Digest Books, Delta, Warner, and Blue Heron Publishing, she knew how long it took to get her instruction out to those looking for help learning how to further their writing. A poet and personal essayist, Sheila also knew how important the craft is for confronting life events and finding meaning.
She enlisted the help of her husband, Kurt VanderSluis, who is a computer-networking expert, and together they approached a web designer. Writing It Real magazine was born with the mission of informing all who come to writing--no writer left behind! No writer feeling left out of knowledge about writing, publishing and the writing life.
