Writing It Real Writing Contest, Theme: A New Season
That can mean season of the year, turning over a new leaf, of one’s time in life, of one’s health and fitness, or of one’s way of thinking, It can mean taking on a new role in life or a new attitude toward work or people or spirituality.
Reading Period January 1, 2018 to March 14, 2018!
Enter eight poems or up to 3000 or so words of prose. Receive Sheila’s detailed response to your writing within a week and the opportunity to submit a revision by the end of the reading period. The revision (or first entry if there is no revision entered) will then be in the running to be judged by our guest judge Kelli Agodon, poet and founder of Two Sylvias Press. Three winners will receive the opportunity to have an hour’s consult with Sheila on their writing, an hour of editing time, or a fee waiver for a Writing It Real online class. With permission by the winners, Writing It Real will publish the three winning pieces along with the judge’s comments. All publication rights are retained by the authors for future publication. This is a great opportunity to receive valuable response and have a jumpstart toward realizing your final draft.
Here’s How to Enter
When you pay the submission fee by clicking on the “Buy Now” button below, you will be taken to our shopping cart. After your purchase, please send your entry as a Microsoft Word document — eight poems in one document or 3000 or so words of prose in one document. The email address to use is firstname.lastname@example.org. You will hear back with Sheila’s responses to your writing within a week of emailing the work to her. After that, when you are ready to send in a revision, use the same email address being sure to type “contest re-entry” in the subject line. And remember, there is NO additional fee for entering a revision of the initial entry.
NOTE: Your re-entry may be a bit longer if development produces fuller work or it may be shorter as good editing can make things more powerful. Either way, the re-entry qualifies for the judging if submitted at anytime before our reading period deadline of 2/28/17.
