A New Year’s Greeting — 10 Comments

  1. Sheila, your New Year’s Blessing “may 2012 be filled with the twosomes of observation and meaning, strength and agility in your art.” provides me with my writing goals for this year. Easy to remember while challenging to achieve. Thanks!

  2. Thank you for keeping Seth’s spirit alive among us and allowing us to use your openness and experiences to delve deeper into our own. This morning, you’ve prompted me to write a description of the delicious, most unusual eggplant we devoured last night with friends at a Chinese restaurant. I’ve tucked it into a memory letter to my mother who filled each of her letters to me with stories of the food she had eaten or prepared that week. Good words and good food are a most fitting way to welcome 2012. Thank you again.

  3. What a wonderful tribute to Seth and the threads of love that connects the family generations. I may not have known Seth, but through your loving tribute to him, I did meet him. Thanks for sharing.

  4. My heart is just a bit fuller, thank you for showing me how a writer can expand her horizon, just by seeing what’s in front (including those dolphin teeth) while accepting thoughts and feelings that can be hard to acknowledge.

  5. I had to smile recognizing your amazing agility and ability to find depth of meaning while musing about new sightings in a familiar place. I wonder if this is “meditative insights” that you share with us – exactly what Rachel Carson’s quote refers to about bringing meaning to life’s knowledge and experiences. Thank you for your life-line to bring me back to the importance of “awe” and away from my petty worries and concerns.

  6. Sheila, what a beautiful letter and example of how, when we reflect deeply upon our observations and life experiences, we bring meaning to them. Thank you for sharing your heart with us and continuing to encourage us to grow as readers. Happy New Year.

  7. To Seth and his perfect teeth, and to Sheila and her perfect heart. Happy New Year to you and Kurt. I love your quote of the week by Rachel Carson, too…listening to what the writer’s subject has to tell her…Seth’s life and death have taught us all, thanks to you.

  8. Sheila,
My tears spill onto the keyboard as I tell you how deeply your writing, your tribute to Seth and your depth of spirit touch me. Thank you.
    Sher
