Cognitive Therapy for Writers: Behave Your Way Into Writing — 3 Comments

  1. I’ve been writing, re-reading, re-writing my memoir over a number of years. At times I’ll find myself frustrated. My memoir has now become my archival memoir project. My 5-year-old is helping me to continue to write, create, and share my memoir project playfully. My ‘younger Self’ is encouraging me to hand write and share what I am called to create in playful ways. She says there is no one way to share a memoir….my memoir is filled with dreams, images, color book scribbles, and more. My 5-year-old Self helps me to change my mood from frustrated to a commitment to playful action.

    • Hi Mary,
Like you describe, I think remembering how to play is an important element of writing, especially when we get bogged down. It sounds very nice indeed to be in touch with the young playful side of oneself who is willing to explore in many media. What she learns is always useful to the adult writing.
