What Have We Here: A Conversation with Susan Bono About Her New Collection of Essays — 8 Comments

  1. I look at my faves list and see that, where it was filled with genealogy references and contacts, now it is filled with writers, publishers, editors, sources for my memoir, for writing has placed me in a wholly new world of words, wordsmiths, books, and incredibly gifted Helpers so willing to support and encourage, like Sheila and Susan, who help on the instant when asked. As a newbie, not so different in my experience as Susan, to find a world of help for the asking. Who is more generous with time and talent than writers?

  2. Oh well, Susan, I just miss you. Your wry wit, your deft eye, your willingness to connect, your encouragement all conspire to nudge the newbie one more rung up the ladder. Marching off now to purchase those essays, to see what we have here. What I’ll have are great tasty slices of Susan! Yum.

  3. ‘Tiny Lights’ and Susan published my very first piece back in 2008! And she’s been a staunch advocate for me ever since. I have felt honoured that she would spend time on my work….her skills are finely honed, her compassion and strength of voice strong. Thank you Susan.
And thank you for finally giving me your outstanding collection so I can glimpse into your life. Poignant, rich, entertaining…..thay are all that….and exquisitely crafted. Stories to enjoy, stories that resonate, and writing to emulate! Thank you again.

    • One of the many things we can’t know when we start out as “newbie” writers is where we’ll end up or who we’ll meet along the way! I love being reminded of how far and wide our writing connections can reach. We go back a long way, Gillian! This lovely note is a wonderful example of the kind of support one writer can offer another. Thanks!

Your kind words put me in mind of the peer reviews we can create for Amazon, Goodreads, etc. I’m curious: How do WIR folks feel about these reviews? Are they important or not? How do they fit into our writing lives?
