  1. “I had to figure out how I could discover the artistic sides of myself that I didn’t dare develop under my father’s watchful eye. I had felt parts of myself become extinguished by his strong goal setting.” These statements, I think, are testimony of the call of Sheila’s artistic soul and her strength to follow it. Evidence of her success is not only in this telling but also in her body of written work.

    “Now I see, that once I made my desire clear and succeeded by writing my poems, he did for me what he had wished his family could have done for him–he accepted who I was and what I wanted.” I think this insight valuable confirmation of the worth of Sheila’s artistic journey, not only for herself but also for her father.

    “Today, I realize that my father’s pleasure at reaching his innermost goals despite his family’s disapproval extended to me upon reaching mine.” I love how father and daughter are also alike – the paths may be different, but the drive to strive for innermost goals are the same.

    This ending I found happy, even in consideration of an uncertain unknown and that made for a very satisfied feeling when done.”
