In former lives, Amy Hewes, a journalist for New Times, served as assistant director of admissions for Wells College, executive administrator for the Planning and Conservation League, and director of Californians Against Waste. She helped lead a grassroots legislative lobbying campaign and statewide initiative for a deposit on throwaway beverage containers.
